Energy in a Salt Marsh (SC.912.L.17.9)
In this investigation students identified the roles different organisms played in a salt marsh ecosystem (click here for the pictures and descriptions) and how matter and energy flowed through the system. Click the title to download the activity.
Biomass in a Coral Reef Ecosystem
Students constructed energy pyramids based on the calculated average biomass (metric tons/hectare) in each trophic level of a coral reef ecosystem in two island groups - Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and the main Hawaiian Islands.
trophic level, energy pyramid, carbon cycle, biogeochemical cycle, producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, decomposer, abiotic, biotic
